"THE JUDGE" wears SASS badge #1. That is fitting since he started the entire sport of cowboy action shooting. In 1979 Judge realized that there was no shooting sports for the Cowboy era. He and 17 friends started what we now know as Cowboy Action Shooting. They developed rules, and then in 1987, incorporated SASS.

When asked about the total numbers of SASS members, The Judge replies "I am more proud of the quality of the people,, than the number of people." That is a modest reply considering Cowboy Action Shooting is arguably the fastest growing shooting sport in the world.
